More about Cora Breytenbach:

I am a qualified registered Educational Psychologist with the South African Health Professions Council consulting in Nelspruit. I have a strong interest in working with children and adolescents of all ages for a variety of difficulties. I focus especially on parents (parental guidance) in supporting them with everyday challenges in their parenting.

I completed my teaching degree (BPrimEd), as well as my Honours and Masters Degrees in Educational Psychology at the University of Pretoria. I have been in the private practice for 13 years, which of 6 years I have been working as a senior Educational Psychologist in the UK. This has prepared me to design and implement psychotherapeutic interventions for a wide range of psychological difficulties, and to address the associated needs using psychological theory, therapeutic techniques, and psycho-diagnostic assessments.

I am passionate about children and facilitating their growth to enable them to lead society in a new area. I find it very rewarding to work with parents, equipping them with the right skills in supporting their children. I believed that we are all blessed with beauty and that we all have access to it, to enable us to live with compassion and empathy. “Listen to the desires of your children. Encourage them and then give them the autonomy to make their own decisions.” Denis Waitley.

Services

The impact of early experiences on children’s frames of reference has a significant influence on their development. When these experiences are characterized by instability and distress, children show evidence of emotional or behavioural problems. Children are not small adults and they do not yet have the vocabulary and skills to work through their problems in the same manner as adults. Psychotherapeutic intervention is a valuable way to empower children to work through these difficulties in accordance to their developmental abilities. Evaluation from the age of 2 years can be done; with this I also do a lot of parental guidance in supporting parents with their needs. This also includes supporting moms-to-be and moms with new babies. Therapy for children from the age of 2 years is offered.
